Over the last few months, I have started to implement manifesting in my everyday life. A big factor of creating a positive mind and energy is showing gratitude for what you already have.
So, I started a gratitude journal, to write down everything I am thankful for before I manifest.
I noticed pretty early on that I was grateful for having a job, my blog etc, but I wanted to get more simplistic. After really thinking about it, I have 13 simple pleasures I am thankful for in my life.
I understand these won’t be the same for everyone, so I’ve listed another 17 more general simple pleasures to appreciate in life.
My simple pleasures in life
I’ve listed below 13 of my simple pleasures in life. I hope you can relate to some of them!
Going for a hot bath on a cold day
Let’s get specific with this one. Bath’s are amazing, but when you’re feeling cold, and you jump in a hot bath and you get goosebumps from the heat, I hope I don’t sound crazy here, but that’s a simple pleasure I appreciate in my life.
I swear it’s like a wave of calm rushes over me once I feel the heat. I find that baths, in general, are great for self-care, and really help me release stress.
Making a cup of tea, just right
If you’re a tea-genie like me, sometimes a cup of tea just isn’t made right and sadly doesn’t hit the spot. BUT, when you have a cup of tea and the sugar is right, the temperature is right, I don’t take milk in my tea – don’t come for me, it’s complete bliss.
Same goes for green tea. Some green teas are very bitter, finding that happy medium is one of my favourite simple pleasures in my life.
Having a stretch in the morning
I have recently changed up my morning routine, and I have included a 10 minutes stretch and wow, what a difference it makes to my body! I had to add this to the list of my simple pleasures list because it’s so simple but yet so effective.
Try adding a quick 5 minutes in the morning to stretch out your body, you can thank me later!
Discovering a new song that fits the vibes
When I am writing blog posts, I love listening to chill playlists on Youtube, and every so often I come across a song that just makes me feel… wow. I guess this is a similar pleasure to “right song at the right moment”
I love discovering new music, so using these chill playlists work for me.
Pressing publish on a new blog post
Now I want to confirm, I’m being very specific here. Not the blog post or the hard work, just getting to press that ‘publish’ button.
I feel like my work is complete and now out there in the world for everyone to see.
Closing my work laptop at 4pm on a Friday
I have been working from home since March 2020, and I finish my contract in March 2021, so having worked from home for almost a year, I’ve managed to get the hang of it.
Being completely honest, I really enjoy my job, but after a long week of calls and invoices, closing my laptop over on a Friday knowing I don’t have to log back on till Monday morning is definitely a simple pleasure in my life.
Completing my morning routine
As I mentioned above, I have started a new morning routine. I’ll be making a blog post on it soon, so keep an eye out.
Building new habits are hard, especially when it means getting up an hour earlier, knowing I can work from my room, but I really wanted to change it up.
Getting to tick off “complete morning routine” on my daily goal sheet really does make it worth it.
Saying affirmations to myself
With anxiety, comes self-doubt, overthinking and self-sabotage, but repeating affirmations really does help me.
Something as simple as telling myself that I am worthy and filled with happiness works, and I am extremely grateful for it.
Singing along to my favourite music
Now, I just want to confirm I am a terrible singer, but it doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy it. I love putting my speaker on when everyone else is out and blasting 2000s music from my childhood and singing along.
Laughing, like genuine laughing
You know that laughing where you can’t breathe, your eyes are streaming and you’re hunched over, yeah that kind of laughing is just… beautiful!
Something so simple, but yet brings so much happiness in my life.
Climbing into clean sheets after shaving my legs
You know that feeling, when you’ve shaved your legs, sheets have just been changed and you move your legs about under the covers and it’s just BLISS.
I don’t know if it’s the clean sheets of the shaved legs, but it’s like no other feeling.
Heating a towel for coming out the shower
Coming out a hot bath into a cold bathroom is just not ideal, but I’ve learned to put my towel on the heater, and what a difference it makes.
Sitting in complete silence
Learning to love my own company is a really big factor in overcoming my anxiety. With that, sitting in complete silence is really difficult, as I am also trying to clear my mind, but for the few minutes I am able to do it, I am extremely grateful.
This is something I would really recommend, try sitting in silence for 2-3 minutes and clearing your mind when anything pops in.
Other simple pleasures in life
After doing some research, I have created a list of other simple pleasures that you can appreciate in your life.
- The first sip of coffee in the morning
- Going for a walk
- Receiving a handwritten letter
- Listening to music in the car
- A movie night with friends
- Listening to the rain
- Walking on the beach
- Eating chocolate
- Going a hike
- Taking a nap
- Completing a puzzle
- Watching the sunset
- Lighting a candle
- Having something sweet
- Not having to be anywhere
- Stepping in a new sheet of snow
- Hot chocolate on a cold day
Appreciating what you have a great step in moving forward in what you want. Showing gratitude and thinking about the positive things in your life that you are grateful for lifts your mood and energy.
A great start would be to start a gratitude journal. I use the keynotes app on my phone/laptop and each week I take 10/15 minutes to write out exactly what I grateful for.
My anxiety can make my mood feel negative, so thinking about all the positives in my life really does help lift my spirits.
